Gateway Christian School seeks to provide quality but affordable education to local children who would not be able to afford the private and other schools in the area.
The School opened in January 1998, catering for children in Grades 1, 2 and 3. Grades 1 and 2 met in opposite ends of Gateway Hall, and Grade 3 were taught in the Chapel, as at that stage the school had no buildings of its own. The Principal's office was part of a store room, shared with piles of stationery!

The South African Schools Act (SASA) of 1996 established a national schooling system and recognised two categories of schools: public and independent. Public schools are state controlled and independent schools are privately governed. All private schools were included into the independent school category.
